Surgery Tuck Tummy?

November 2nd, 2009 No Comments

Abdominoplasty, is also known as a “tummy tuck” surgery. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure to remove excess fat and skin along the abdominal area. While this is different from removal of man boobs, it is similar in nature, and as such, it is a good to know for our readers.

The purpose of this is to make the waist more firm and have a flatter appearance. This type of surgery is usually sought after by people who have sagging abdominal skin (like after a substantial weight loss) and women whose pregnancy left them with loose tissues.

The surgery for a tummy tuck can vary in length, depending on the type of incisions used as well as the technique itself. In some instances, all that it would need is a short horizontal incision below the navel, and can be over in as short as one to two hours.

This type of tummy tuck surgery is called Partial (or Mini-Tuck) Abdominoplasty. In cases wherein a Complete Abdominoplasty is required, the surgery can last up to five hours. It can also be possible that the procedure be combined with liposuction and other similar surgical types. The surgery may be performed in a hospital or it may be done on an outpatient basis, depending on the case.

After surgery, it is advisable that one take short walks to promote blood circulation.  Expect swelling and bruising, which will gradually disappear in a matter of weeks. One may feel numb in several areas of the abdomen, and this will last for several months.

Lifting and straining should be avoided, as these may cause increased swelling and bleeding. A comfortable support garment should be worn for at least a month and a half. A week after surgery, dressings may already be changed or removed. Within the period of two weeks, stitches will be removed.

Time of recovery will vary from person to person. Depending on the type of surgery and one’s overall physical condition, convalescence can happen within as short as less than a month’s time to several months. During this time, one should avoid strenuous activities, but moderate exercise such as walking is encouraged.

The cost of a tummy tuck surgery can vary from country to country, and in general ranges from USD $3,000 to as high as USD $10,000. The cost depends on several factors like the patient’s weight, age, and overall health conditions.

As with all major surgery, this procedure has it share or risks. Instances of possible complications involve negative reactions to anesthesia, bleeding, and infection. Complications may lead to delayed healing and recovery, especially if the person is a heavy smoker or have diabetes.

Thus, if you are considering undergoing it, gather all needed facts about it, and consult a reliable cosmetic surgeon before making a decision. Having a tummy tuck surgery should be considered as a last resort if one has already exhausted all other possible options. Of course, if it is to get rid of man boobs, this is the resource you need!
